SPE: A-NZ AWARDS Student competition: Research paper at ANTEC® 2023

The Society of Plastic Engineers: Australia-New Zealand Section (SPE: A-NZ Section) is offering a number of Awards to recognise the best three papers submitted by students from Australia and New Zealand for presentation at the Virtual part of the Conference.


These Awards are:

AUD$1,500 for the best paper

AUD$1,000 for the runner-up paper

AUD$500 for the 3rd placed paper

Submitted papers for these Awards will be reviewed by a panel of experts in plastics and polymers from industry and academia.

SPE is hosting ANTEC® 2023 at the Hilton Denver City Centre, Denver, CO from March 27–30, 2023.

ANTEC® 2023 will showcase the latest advances in industrial, national laboratory, and academic work. Learn about new findings and innovations in polymer research, products, and technologies. At ANTEC® 2023, there will be multiple opportunities to spend time with colleagues at SPE-hosted meetings, receptions, networking luncheons, and SPE Chapter networking events.

Invitation to compete for the Awards

SPE: A-NZ Section invites both undergraduate students and graduate students to submit a paper to secure a chance to win one of the Awards. This is an excellent opportunity for a student who is:

  • enrolled as a full time or part time student in a tertiary institution in Australia or in New Zealand; and

  • working in the areas of polymer science and engineering, plastics, polymer composites, biodegradable polymers and processing, applied sciences, engineering including design, development and characterisation of novel materials meeting the eligibility criteria.

Eligibility for the Awards

The eligibility criteria are:

  • The Award is open to all undergraduate / postgraduate candidates from Australia or New Zealand.

  • The submission of the paper to ANTEC® 2023 for the Awards is to be made via the global SPE webpage: www.4spe.org by 30th November 2022 (be aware of the time difference).

  • The final paper submitted to ANTEC® 2023 must be accepted (with or without revisions) by ANTEC® 2023.

  • The submitted paper must result in a presentation at ANTEC® 2023.

  • It is the responsibility of the candidate to advise the SPE: A-NZ Education Chair of the acceptance of his / her paper by ANTEC® 2023 within two (2) working days of the receipt of the notification by ANTEC® 2023 to the candidate.

  • The submitted paper must be forwarded by Wednesday, 30th November 2022 COB to the SPE: A-NZ Education Chair, Dr Firoozeh Pourjavaheri with email: publicity@plastics.org.au.

Background information about the Awards but not essential for the submission

The background information will be provided in the next weeks including information about the judging process and Awards time schedule. No discussion or correspondence of the results will be accepted.
