Our bell-ringer no more

Vale Ian Fletcher

We were greatly saddened to hear of the news that Ian Fletcher tragically lost his life in a car accident on Christmas Day 2022 at Cowes on Phillip Island. Our sincere sympathy to his wife and family.

For many years Ian made his valuable contribution at the SPE: A-NZ Section Conference as a bell-ringer, notifying the Conference speakers that the time of their presentation was coming to an end. We could rely on him, and we were pleased that Ian contributed in this role also at our latest Conference on 22nd and 23rd November 2022.

I met Ian at one of the many dinner functions of the Australian Institute of Packaging (AIP) at the Box Hill Golf Club in the early 2000’s. He was a frequent attendee and active representative of the AIP and was always prepared to assist with valuable knowledge about the packaging industry. He was also a good comrade to have a chat with.

Over the last few years, he often talked about his role and contributions to the Mission to Seafarers at Melbourne to sailors from far and nearby. I am sure that also that organisation benefited from his help and support.

My wife, Susie, and I will miss him.

Han Michel

Immediate Past President of the SPE: A-NZ Section
