Plastics Waste and Recycling

Professor Peter Halley of the University of Queensland will cover how research can be targeted to address technological barriers for recycling of polymeric materials, which in turn further enables the transition to a circular economy.

Paul Luckman of the new CRC Fight Food Waste will discuss the important role which plastics play in reducing food waste keeping in mind that 40% of all the food we produce goes to waste. The new CRC will focus on reducing food waste throughout the supply chain, transform unavoidable waste into innovative high-value co-products and engage with industry and consumers to deliver behavioural change.

Envorinex is dedicated to providing innovative and proven polymer product solutions for plastics waste. The team at Envorinex is continually researching and developing environmentally responsible and 100% recyclable products. The presentation will demonstrate the success with implementing innovative solutions using injection moulding and extrusion processes.

The seminar will conclude with a video prepared by The Plastics Collective on their work in the Asia Pacific region with remote communities in finding solutions for their plastics waste. The Plastics Collective’s solution is based on 3 fundamental pillars and is the brainchild of Louise Hardman. These pillars are Empower people with knowledge, Innovate new designs and materials and Create with practical and reliable tools and machinery, such as the Shruder machine. The Shruder program (machinery and training) provides communities an end-to-end plastic recycling solution to produce valuable recycled plastic output in the form of shredded raw material, filament/cord and moulded products.
